Soup season is officially here! (At least here in Indiana!!) It is starting to get colder outside, so it is time to warm up inside. This recipe is tried and true! Even my kids like this! Before Brit and I first got married, his mom wrote down all of his favorite recipes for me and put them in a photo album. It is still such a special gift to me. (Future mother-in-laws - take note!) Helpful tip: Double the recipe and freeze half! This soup freezes really well! Plus, who doesn't love to have a meal ready to go during the busy work weeks?? Ingredients:
1 Pound Ground Beef (browned and drained) 1 Chopped Onion Minced Garlic (I usually use 5-6 cloves) 1 Qt Canned Tomatoes 1 Small Can Tomato Paste 1 Cup Chopped Celery 1 Can of Corn 1 Cup Sliced Carrots 1 Can Green Beans 1 Beef Bouillon Cube 3-4 Cups of Water Salt and Pepper to Taste After browning ground beef, onion, and garlic, add remaining ingredients to stock pan. Let simmer for 1-2 hours! Enjoy!!

I have had several questions about my favorite make-up products! So here you go, lovelies! Theses are my favorites! Tried and true! P.S. - Don't expect a make-up tutorial from me! I am sure I am doing things wrong! ;) Up first is my favorite eye shadow! I'll be honest, I have used several different brands, but I always come back to Clinique. I have sensitive skin and have used Clinique since high school! My favorite colors are Strawberry Fudge, Brandied Plum and Twilight Mauve, and Seashell Pink and Fawn Satin! Next up is my new favorite eyeliner! It is tried and true! You may have read my blog post about it a month or so ago! It stays on all day and still looks great at the end of the day! I wear it in black. I have yet to find the mascara that I think is THE ONE! However, I am really liking this one by Clinique. If you have one that is absolutely amazing, feel free to drop it in the comments below! I also really like to use a primer when I am going out somewhere special! I don't wear it to school every day because honestly, do the children really care if my make-up is not flawless at the end of the day!?! ;) This one from Smashbox is my favorite! Let's talk about foundation! Every day, I wear foundation and then follow it up with some loose powder. Believe it or not, Briton's grandma (probably one of the stylish people I ever knew!!) introduced this foundation to me. It is AMAZING! If you are looking for something with flawless coverage, this is the foundation to try! I wear it in Sand Beige. My loose powder is another favorite! I have been using this powder by Clinique for more years than I know!! (Twenty, I think!!) Helpful tip, keep an empty container and save it! I always have two colors available - one darker and one lighter. When I get back from vacation, as my tan fades, I use the empty container and mix a little of each in the container until I get the perfect combination! Next up on my make-up routine is blush! I use this blush from Clinique! My favorite color is New Clover. Such a pretty, girly pink! Lastly, I love MAC lipstick and lipgloss! I am not sure I could even pick a favorite! I tend to gravitate towards all things pink - big shocker, I know! Just one last thought.....I am not saying you have to purchase these items. I am sure you may have some you prefer more! And that's great! I also realize that these may not be as environmentally friendly as some of you may prefer, but I am just being honest and sharing what works for me!!
Love to you all!! Candace
You may have been wondering as you have been following my page, "What is up with this girl's obsession with elastic waist pants?!" I cannot deny that obsession! I love them! But here's why......
When Henry was born, almost seven years ago, it was a scary day! We look back on the day and say it was one of the happiest days and scariest days of our lives. Long story short, Henry was in distress right before he was about to be born. Because of this, I had to have an emergency c-section. Since it was one minute faster to get Henry out, my scar is vertical rather than horizontal. (Yes, I look like I have a butt on my stomach! A butt with stretch marks!! Sexy, huh??) Because my scar is horizontal, every pair of pants with a zipper hit right on my scar! When I discovered elastic waist pants, my life was literally changed (dramatic, I know!)! But it really was! When I wear them, my scar no longer bothered me like every pair of other pants! And so my obsession began..... Check out some of my favorites below!
First up is the Rockstar Jeggings from Old Navy! For me, these run true to size. I order them in my regular size of 4. I also really like that they come in regular, tall, and petite sizes. They also have great work options! They have a back pocket but just a faux front pocket.
Next up are my "Old Faithfuls"! I first received these leggings in a Stitch Fix box! Liverpool Sienna leggings are tried and true! I am often asked which leggings I prefer - Old Navy leggings or Liverpool Siennas. Honestly, that is hard to answer. I have only recently started wearing Old Navy's version, but I have been wearing my Liverpools for about 5 years! Here are a few of my favorites below. I am 5'5" and prefer the ankle version to wear with booties and flats. For me, they are the perfect length. I also size one size down in these (from a 4 to a 2). I first received a 4, and while they fit, I just felt more sucked in with the size 2 pants.
I also like the Wit & Wisdom brand from Nordstrom. They still have a zipper and button, but somehow the elastic in the waist makes them incredibly comfortable. They run true to size.
Briton and I recently got back from a little getaway over fall break! We had a great time and thought of a few travel tips that will make your next trip easier! 1. Download the airline app on your smart phone. Downloading the airline app on your phone will help in several ways. First, it allows you to check in on your flight very easily. It also allows you to have easy access to your boarding passes. I would also suggest taking a screenshot of your boarding pass just in case something goes wrong! You will also get alerts if there are any delays or changes in your flight. 2. Fit your items in a carry-on bag. I know you may think you can't do it, but trust me, if I can do, so can you! While I do always like to be prepared, I'll be honest, I am totally guilty of overpacking in the past! Things in the airport go so much quicker if you have a carry-on bag only! 3. Pack one color of clothing. This sounds silly, but for me, packing one color of clothing helps me fit everything into one suitcase. For me, the color is always black! :) When I pack all black things, it helps two pairs of shoes go with everything I pack! Plus, black is slimming and doesn't show stains! 4. Use packing cubes. I use packing cubes to help my suitcase stay organized and help things fit better. I usually pack all my shoes in one cube, outfits in another, and swimwear in another. 5. Separate your clean clothes and dirty clothes. Not only are the packing cubes good for organizing your suitcase, they are also perfect for separating clean and dirty clothes when you are packing to go home! The night before we come home, I always separate our dirty clothes from our clean clothes. My suitcase has the clean clothes, and Briton's suitcase has the dirty clothes. This makes it super easy when we get home! I use the packing cubes inside the suitcases - white dirty clothes in one packing cube and colored dirty clothes in another. I wish that this made doing the actual laundry easier, but sigh, laundry still takes me a few days to catch up on! I hope these packing tips help make your trip run a bit smoother!
Candace My mother-in-law celebrated her birthday, and I was in charge of table decorations for a small party we were having at their lake home. I wanted to do something simple yet beautiful and elegant. I had been wanting to create a burlap and lace table runner I saw on Pinterest a while back, so I decided to give it a try! What you need: Burlap Lace Stitch Witchery An Iron First, I laid the burlap down and put some Stitch Witchery on the bottom of it. Next, I laid the Lace on top. I was thrilled with how the table turned out! White table cloths, new table runner, Ball jars filled with white flowers, and gold chargers made it perfect!
For the past several years, Briton and I have been traveling to Las Vegas over my fall break. We absolutely love the shows, food, and sightseeing! This year we planned our trip out in August and were excited for some time away together. Exactly one week before we were scheduled to land, tragedy struck Las Vegas. We were heartbroken to hear about the senseless act that caused so many lives to be lost. I will never be able to comprehend why someone would want to do something like this. But here is what I learned after traveling there. Hate is strong, but love is stronger. The love we saw throughout the city we overwhelming. The people in the city were heartbroken, yes, but they were also caring. Brit and I both felt that at every restaurant we went to, the servers spent more time talking to us and genuinely caring. On the streets, more people stopped and talked to us. When we visited the memorial, the outpouring of love was so overwhelming that we were both brought to tears. While I cannot and will not ever understand a hate that strong, I know that in the end, love wins. #VegasStrong Click here to read more about the incredible story about an Illinois man that built the crosses and drove them cross country.
With so many new followers lately, I thought I would spew my thoughts out in writing about a few things! 1. Please don't send inappropriate things! Common sense is not so common! Am I right!?! And while I am sure that some would be impressed with an inappropriate naked video of a man, I am not! Yikes! I am completely in love with my husband, and nothing sent to my inbox will change that! Eeeeeek! This will also cause you to be banned from my page! You have been warned! ;) 2. If you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing at all. I am certainly not perfect! Sometimes I will have a grammatical error! Occasionally, you will see me standing with not great posture. (I have scoliosis..... so while I try to make sure I am always standing up straight, that is not always the case.) And while I will always refrain from posting something negative back, it does hurt to be scrutinized and criticized for petty things. I will continue to be imperfect and real. And along the way, I will make mistakes. I appreciate your grace! 3. I will try to always respond. With fall break now over, I will return to my day job of first grade teacher! I so appreciate all of your comments, questions, and messages! If I don't respond, ask again! Sometimes I miss things! It may take a few hours, but I will always respond. 4. I appreciate you all! While this may sound cliche, I am so appreciative to all of you following along! I am just a girl from a small town who loves Jesus, my family, my friends, and fashion! This blog has opened up a whole new world of fun for me! Thanks for following along!!
Candace Who doesn't love a good caramel apple dip in the fall? This recipe is an absolute favorite because one, it's delicious, and two, it's simple to make! You only need two things to make this - a can of sweetened condensed milk and a bag of caramels! That's it! Unwrap all the caramels and add the to a saucepan. Pour the entire contents of the can of milk in the saucepan over medium heat. Stir continuously until the caramels are completely melted. Do not stop stirring or the caramels will burn on the bottom of the pan. That's it!! Pour into a bowl and serve! ENJOY!
I use all of these products every day! And while I COULD live without them, I certainly wouldn't want to! Up first is my favorite hairbrush! I know that everyone loves the Wet Brush, but this brush works way better on my hair! The thicker bristles just work their way through my hair better! This perfume, Daisy by Marc Jacobs, is by far my favorite scent. Briton and I were on a cruise about 8 years ago when I smelled this for the first time! I have been hooked ever since! I first jumped on the dry shampoo train about three months ago! I have very fine, thin hair. I wash it every other day. On the "clean hair" day, I wear my hair down. On the "not clean hair" day, I would usually wear it up. But after trying this dry shampoo, I can now wear my hair down any day I want! My favorite things about this brand are the amazing scent and the fact that you can buy it in two tones - dark hair and light hair. I spray it on, let it dry, brush, and style as normal. I don't mind getting old, but I just don't want to LOOK old! I use this Skin Medica Retinol Complex every night before bed. Yes, it is expensive. But it lasts a LONG time. One bottle can last me 6 months. You just need one small squirt a night. Back to that not getting old thing.... I also use this eye cream every night too! One day this past summer during Teacher Pool Day, one of my favorite retired teachers was telling us that she SWEARS by this cream. After pool day was over, all of my teacher friends went right out and purchased this! Here's to looking young! This top coat is THE BEST top coat I have ever used! I swear, it dries in seconds! I paint my regular polish on in two coats, let it dry mostly, then paint on this top coat. It literally dries in no time at all. Plus, it has a great shine to it. I feel like it totally makes my polish last longer too. This will make me sound old, but I LOVE Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion (<- WHOA! That was a lot to type!)! I have super sensitive skin and have used this since high school. It doesn't irritate my skin at all, but it leaves it very moisturized! Coconut oil is my new best friend! Because of my sensitive skin, I use coconut oil in two main ways. First, I use as my "lotion". I rub it everywhere that I would lotion. Yes it is oily, it is coconut OIL after all, but I just let it absorb and it is not too bad. I also use it to remove my eye makeup. I get my cotton pad damp, dip it in coconut oil, and remove my eye makeup! Easy peasy! If you are looking for a foundation that covers amazingly, look no further! I have been using this foundation for years and love how flawless it makes my face look. Available in tons of shades - 40 to be exact!
